There are two clear categories of content, and buyers must understand the differences. The first and more time consuming is human written content, in which a person actually reads the sources and decides what is important. They then type their sentences. This human written content is the foundation of the arguments on tone, accuracy, and detector scores, which come later. The second category of content is ‘AI’ content, where the language model types sentences by predicting the most likely sequence of words based on patterns in the data it was trained on.
Quality is not the distinguishing factor, and treating it as such makes the comparison pointless. A model can create copy that is clean, grammatical, and well-structured in nine seconds. A sleep-deprived writer on a bad Thursday can produce something that is worse, and noticeably so. The distinction does still hold, because it describes the process of how the text was constructed in comparison to the copy that was produced.
What origin grants you is a traceable line. Ask a writer why section two was written the way it was, and you will get a clear answer: an interview, an email, a phone call they made and can explain. A computer generated text has a statistical answer for why it was built the way it was, so its confident statements and incorrect statements look the same.

The output begins generation. You input a prompt, and you suddenly have something to edit. Unlike a draft, which starts at the input, it is brief along with interview notes and three contradictory sources. Whatever is first creates the format for everything that comes after.
This is likely the biggest contrast. A writer opens a filing cabinet, a changelog, a support ticket, and cites what’s actually inside them. A model writes what it presumes the document is supposed to say. Since the presumption is often correct, it’s a problem because there is no context in the finished product to show the difference between what was recalled and what was verified.
Revision also behaves uniquely. Ask someone to remove a part, and they understand what was in that part, so they redistribute the burden. Ask your model to shorten the same part, and it evenly compresses, keeps the rhythm, and loses the clause the argument was built upon. Some jobs require that we generate text, and to deny that would be misleading. This could include internal summaries that will never get cited. Forty subject line variants of which you will likely delete thirty-nine of them. A draft version that will likely undergo several revisions. None of these situations require that we take credit for the text. In fact, we can assume that no one will believe the text to be factual.
The moment someone downstream relies on the byline changes the equation. A client contract with a no-AI clause included. A publisher whose submission terms mandate human authorship. Expert commentary, the value of which is potentially due to one named individual believing it. Anything an editor, regulator, or court may instruct you to explain at a later date.
One thing we should clarify, because we aim for honesty here, is that there is no detector that proves someone is the original author. Writing that someone created may also be flagged, as a report showing low AI probability is considered evidence but not proof. A traceable process and someone you can interrogate are the only real evidence of a human authorship claim.
