Terms of Service

The agreement with Articled that you sign when you commission work. This is to be read before you need it.

What the Articled Terms of Service Covers

These terms apply to all orders made with Articled. By completing a brief through our order form, you accept these terms. There is no account to create, therefore there is no agreement to sign up. This page as well as the privacy policy and the acceptable use policy, which are referenced, make up the agreement.

In these terms “we” and “Articled” refer to Articled, the commissioning and writing service. “You” and “the client” refer to the person or organization that places the writing order. “Writer” refers to the commissioned human writer. “Deliverable” refers to the final draft delivered to you.

We may change these terms. The version that applies to your order is the version that was published while your brief was submitted, and the date of all significant changes is located at the end of this page. We will not enforce a later change to work that was already commissioned.

  • Privacy Policy and Acceptable Use Policy are the complete terms and conditions.
  • Submitting a brief constitutes acceptance
  • The version in force when you order is the version that governs it
  • No account, no subscription and no standing commitment is created

How the Articled Terms of Service Works

Ordering and acceptance. Submitting a brief is, for us, a request. We confirm the proposed scope and the price by email. We won’t sign a contract unless you approve the quote. We have the right to refuse any brief. It is usually because there is a breach of our acceptable use policy or because we don’t have a suitable writer.

Price and payment. Writing is at $10 for 100 words. Articled absorbs a 1% platform fee. This means writers keep the full price of writing. Quotes are in USD, and communication confirming work tasks are done prior to the task being taken up. Payment is either at checkout for basket orders or as stated in your quote for custom orders. Payment is taken at checkout, and the work is initiated.

We aim for a three day turnaround time after a confirmed order. We say “up to” because the work requires one to research and write. For long-form or interview-based commissions, we provide more explicit timelines that account for the length of the work. Deliveries are sent to the email address you provide to us. It is your responsibility to provide us with an email address that is functional.

Two weeks after the delivery of work, two rounds of revisions are allowed, according to the revisions policy. Additional work is considered new work and is subject to new charges.

Intellectual property. All of the deliverable’s rights, including copyright, will be yours upon full payment with no obligation for acknowledgment and with no license retained by us. Until full payment, the rights belong to us. By accepting a commission, writers assign their rights through us, which enables us to assign Clean Title to you.

When the Articled Terms of Service Applies

Our warranties. We warrant that the deliverable is original and written by a human being and not produced, edited, outlined, researched, or paraphrased using generative AI, and it was not passed through an AI humanizer. We warrant that it does not infringe on any third party’s rights. We make no warranties related to any commercial result, including but not limited to ranking, traffic, conversion, or revenue. Any such warranties made elsewhere are not part of this contract.

Detection scores. We address each draft to multiple AI detection tools and include the reports. We do not take responsibility for what scores a third-party detector puts out, because there are too many variables (they change without notice, produce false positives, use undefined algorithms, etc.). What we take responsibility for is the process by which the work was produced, because that is what we actually control.

Your responsibilities. You must ensure the accuracy of the material you provide, obtain rights for content that you ask us to incorporate, and review deliverables prior to publication to ensure that content in a regulated field is reviewed and approved by individuals you deem qualified. You will also be responsible for the final published document of any content you revise after delivery.

Limitations of Liability. Nothing in these terms and conditions seeks to exclude liability for death or personal injury that is caused by negligence, for fraud, or to any damage or liability that cannot by law be excluded. Subject to this, our liability for any order is restricted to the price of that order, and we do not accept liability for loss of profits, loss of revenue or loss of goodwill.

Termination. You have the right to a full refund as long as you cancel the order before we assign a writer. If you cancel after we assign a writer, we reserve the right to charge you for the work completed according to our policy. We reserve the right to end a contract after a brief is determined to violate our acceptable use policy, after payment has not been made, or if the client has been determined to be abusive to a writer - we recognize that writers are people and will not ask them to remain in an abusive situation.

Governing law

This agreement will be governed by the laws of the operator’s home jurisdiction. The operator must fill in the specific jurisdiction in the address for service line before the agreement is published. The courts of that jurisdiction will have exclusive jurisdiction.

Articled Terms of Service FAQs

Whether it’s a lone customer buying one speech for their wedding, or an agency purchasing a barrage of them every week. They keep us working, and writers labor under the same deal as us with a contract that us wholly commits them to not using AI.

Send the clause you want reviewed to hello@articled.org. If you need any of the following completed for no charge, please include the request with your email: signed IP assignment, supplier questionnaires, or anything requested by your legal team. We’ll take care of it.

No. Approving the quote by email forms the contract. If your procurement process requires a signed document, we can sign yours or we can send ours, whichever is easier for you.

Tell us and we will either reassign it or fully refund you, your choice. A late delivery that has no value to you anymore is considered a non-delivery, not a partial fulfillment.

Yes, we’ll sign yours rather than push for our own. Writers working on the commission are bound to equivalent confidentiality terms in their own contracts.

This page is a template for a plain-English contract. It is not legal advice. Any organization that uses this should have a lawyer review it, including provision for the appropriate jurisdiction, the legal name and registered address of the business that will be operating.

Content a person actually wrote

$10 per 100 words, and the writer keeps all of it. Our 1% sits on top, 0.5% goes to trees, and no generated text appears anywhere in the process.
