Most self-help books are written to assist the author in selling books rather than actually helping people. This project is about designing a self-help book that recognizes a problem in the reader after two chapters and is so uniquely solutions-based that the same level of insight could not be gained from book or podcast.
That means it has to include stuff that only you know. These things could include the terrible engagement experience, the number you charge, the step everyone skips. That information comes out during interviews and are not prompted, so a writer will call you for hours in order to write a single page.
One framework has to do all the work. Readers stop taking notes because if Chapter Three uses a four stage model and Chapter Seven platforms a different set of pillars, both models have to be integrated. We eliminate the frameworks and provide a new one. Then we identify the parts of the new framework to make it clear to the reader. Then we make sure every chapter, diagram, case study, and report builds upon this new framework.
Generated case studies are the basis of fake business books. Names are made up, as are percentages. It is all purely fictional. It is very harmful for you to have fake clients stories in a book. One reader finds your fake case study, and it ruins your whole book. Your book is about your prestige, your credibility, and your ability to generate real business. Fake case studies erase a lot of hard work and are an easy way to ruin your credibility.
The interviews begin with three or four hours of documented conversations because the book is already in your head, but in the wrong order. The writer transcribes, organizes and shows you the gaps. They show you the chapters which you have strong opinions about, but have nothing but opinion to fill those chapters. They also show you the chapters you cannot legally publish just yet.
Each of the three passes of the text performs a distinct task. The first check is on the arguments. Each chapter must prove what it claims. The second check is on the evidence and whether the permissions came back. The third check is for the boardroom test. This is looking at whether a skeptical reader would put the book down at any given point.
