No-AI Media Pitches, Written Properly

A pitch is read in the preview pane. Subject line, sender, first line, and a half. If the story is not obvious by then, the email is archived, and a longer pitch does not fix the issue, because no one scrolls an email from a stranger.

A pitch is the shortest thing we write, and one of the hardest. About 150 words, and the bulk is in the first 20. The rest is there to back up the first 20.

The Articled Standard for No-AI Media Pitches

A pitch must clearly identify the relevant segment, column, or section. We expect writers to specify a slot, not an outlet. Editors should not have to place a piece. A writer should read recent issues or episodes prior to drafting because pitching a show the same story it ran the prior month is more offensive than not pitching at all.

  • Subject line that states the story, not the sender.
  • Named slot, section or segment the story fits.
  • Under two hundred words, with no attachments.

Where AI falls down on media pitches

A generated pitch flatters the recipient in the first line, which is the tell every journalist learned to spot years ago. It also cites articles the reporter never penned, because the model fills the personalization slot with something plausible rather than something true.

How We Keep No-AI Media Pitches Human-Written

Writers read the outlet before they write the email. This is the whole process, and it is the part automation skips. Recent coverage, the section’s tone, and even if they accept contributed pieces. A draft, and then a hard cut to what fits above the fold.

How a media pitch gets written here

  1. You name the outlets or shows and say what you want covered.
  2. Writer reads recent coverage to confirm the story has not just run there.
  3. Pitch drafted with a subject line, a hook, proof and a clear ask.
  4. Cut to length, checked for accuracy, run through the detector suite.

Where No-AI Media Pitches Fit Into Your Strategy

Pitches fill the gap between having news and having coverage. They are most effective when something is behind them, such as a release, exclusive data, or a spokesperson who is worth a twenty-minute conversation with an editor. Teams that pitch without that jeopardize valuable contacts they will need later that year.

  • One pitch per outlet, written to that outlet’s slot.
  • Two subject line options so you can test what lands.
  • A two-line follow-up written to send a week later.
  • Supporting proof points an editor can verify quickly.
  • Written to paste into your own email client, unformatted.

What people commission media pitches for

  • Securing a founder’s appearance on an industry podcast.
  • Presenting survey data to a trade publication.
  • Providing a contributed column to a niche publication.
  • Offering a broadcast segment about a local activity.

What media pitches cost

One rate, whatever the format: $10 per 100 words. You are paying for the writer’s time and judgement, so the price scales with the words rather than with a package tier.

The writer receives 100% of the writing price. Our 1% fee is added on top of it, and 0.5% is donated to tree planting. Full pricing breakdown.

No-AI Media Pitches Writing FAQs

Every draft goes through an editor, then through several AI detectors and a plagiarism check. Anything that does not come back clean is revised or reassigned. You get the reports with the delivery email.

What the piece is for, who reads it, roughly how long it should be, and anything it must include or avoid. Links to your existing material help. If you are unsure, send what you have and the writer will come back with questions.

Absolutely not, and anyone selling you a list should be treated with suspicion. We write the pitch; the relationship is yours to build. If you haven’t targeted outlets yet, say so, and the writer will list recommended sections and shows where the story fits.

None, if you can help it. Editors talk, and identical email blasts to four competitors are just that, mailshots. Each outlet should get a unique pitch, roughly 150 words, or one core pitch that the writer varies properly for each target.

Trade press ran it almost as is

Two out of four outlets put your article out exactly like it was in our lead paragraph. Every other lead-in has either ignored or rewritten our releases. What’s notable here is that our lead-in this time was our measurement change, while in the past it was company achievement.

A journalist ran it nearly verbatim

The release covers the number first, and puts the CEO quote in the fourth position. It was picked by two industry magazines. One modified six words. I have been a writer of releases for 15 years, and that has only happened to me on two occasions.

First draft was too polished for us

First draft was so brochure like, I had to say we sell to procurement teams, so we’re talking about people who are allergic to adjectives. The second draft was better because it used customer’s wording from the interview, which is what I actually wanted in the first place. Just one more round and we got it right.
