For public sector jobs, university positions, and hospital posts, hiring committees score your application against a published person specification - one criterion at a time. Each criterion is often limited to a few words. On a public sector application, missing one criterion is the same as missing the entire point regardless of your years of relevant work experience.
So we write to the specification. Evidence for each essential requirement will be included in your own wording within the word limit of the form.
Someone who scores these uses criterion four during the scoring process. If your answer describes criterion four back to them instead of proving you satisfy the criterion, they will score your response as low and move on. Using a real world history and mapping it onto a scoring grid of someone else is a careful, labor intensive, and unglamourous process, but it is effective when someone chooses to do it.
Generated answers are confidence-filled paraphrases of the criterion and will not end with a relevant example. A scorer working through fifty applications will log that as unevidenced, thus resulting in a zero. You will be rewarded proof, and proof is only in your personal history.
Planning takes up the lion’s share of the work. The writer dissects the person specification into some components, and helps you identify instances that can align to each of them as long as no instance is being cited for multiple components. People start writing only when all the components have been cited.
