A lead magnet is a form of barter trade. In exchange for their email address, you provide them with something that has perceived value, which outweighs the emails they will incur. Most fail to do this on the first two pages.
There are two steps to the process. The first is broad filtering. Broadly targeting students, competitors, and everyone who will never become a customer is how you attract a large audience. Narrow filtering on the other hand, generates fewer downloads and gives prospect accounts that your sales team will actually call, which is the only metric that really matters.
Download intent and purchase intent differ, and a gap exists between the two where lists go wrong. A person deciding to buy this quarter wants either a comparison framework or a checklist to take with them to their meeting. A person that heard the term recently wants a definition and is at least a year away from having a budget.
Where AI falls down on lead magnets
Published lead magnets are the guides your competitor offers, built from the same public sources. Someone downloads it and learns nothing that cannot be read for free, and then stops opening your emails. You have paid for a list who evidently decided you were not worth reading.
How We Build the Argument in No-AI Lead Magnets
We base our documentation on what you know about the buyers that makes it difficult for them to know. More often than not it’s operational knowledge and the processes you use. It may also be the numbers you see across clients and the mistakes you see clients make, etc. Documentation of this knowledge is what makes this download worth a mailing address.
Using No-AI Lead Magnets to Support the Sale
The download provides a great conversation starting point for your sales team and therefore we provide follow-ups as well. The first email, specific sections for reference calls, and indicators to explain what a reply means for the person’s interest are examples. A magnet with no follow-up plan will create a list that nobody works.
What lead magnets cost
One rate, whatever the format: $10 per 100 words. You are paying for the writer’s time and judgement, so the price scales with the words rather than with a package tier.

Questions About Buying No-AI Lead Magnets
What the piece is for, who reads it, roughly how long it should be, and anything it must include or avoid. Links to your existing material help. If you are unsure, send what you have and the writer will come back with questions.
Up to 3 days. The writer has to read around the subject before writing it, so we quote honestly rather than promising an hour. If your deadline is tighter, say so in the brief and we will tell you before you pay whether we can meet it.
They should be commissioned together. The landing page has to clearly state what clients will receive upon download, and the first follow up email has to be specific in referencing some content within the document being downloaded. Writing the landing page and the download follow-up emails weeks apart is how a download and its follow up stop matching.
Focus topic to make it relevant only to someone who has the problem and the budget. A guide for choosing one of the two approaches is more helpful than a category introduction, because people who are at the point of decision justify the benefit.

Actually fits on one page
I’ve seen a lot of one-pagers that somehow stretch to three pages. This is one page. It’s got eleven point font with a whole lot of blank space. The writer asked about what our reps are being asked in the first ninety seconds of a call and built the sheet around those four questions. No account to set up either, which suits our purchasing regulations.

Cut our deck from nineteen slides to twelve
We threw away seven slides, and the traction numbers moved to slide three. Our first investor meeting after the change lasted twenty minutes longer than scheduled because the investors weren’t waiting for us to finish and were actually interested in what we were saying. You can figure it out from there.

Needed a call for it to click
For the first outline, they misunderstood the true essence of the customer story. They believe that the cost savings were the true “win.” In fact, it was the speed of the migration. A quick 15-minute phone call cleared that up, and the completed case study was excellent. I would factor in a call at the beginning in the future.
