An executive byline gets you exposure that the founder position lacks. Investors and competitors peruse them, and in a regulated sector, someone whose job it is to read and verify what you have written will read it as well. That loss of freedom hones your writing before the first word of the draft goes down.
It doesn’t excuse silence. Saying nothing and agreeing with the entire industry means that your name is used, and you get nothing for it. Work is having a defensible position. If that position is defended effectively, then a review will not entirely dismiss the work.
Executive writing is identified as authentic when the author’s understanding of the business comes across as having this level of access. The author may reference the discussion points from the board meeting last month. They may also write about a particular customer segment and describe some unexpected behavior, perhaps even to the extent of identifying the segment. If the author does not have this access, what they have written is just the average view of the industry in a nice corporate outfit, and it is the author’s name on the byline that makes the emptiness of the piece the most apparent.
Executive writing produces the consensus and confidence necessary to forge ahead and supports this fact with made-up statistics that seem reasonable, backed by no sources. That is the very problemapcompliance review estimates are designed to overcome. One unsourced figure in a bylined piece costs more than that piece will ever earn.
To begin constructing the article, we interview the executive. We then interview the person who has the data associated with the argument. This may well be a third party. We construct the piece in such a way that claims can be separated, so if one is removed, the structure is not collapsed. That one choice saves most of the review time.
Executives begin to count after as little as two or three years of regularly published position pieces—in contrast to monthly—have earned the right to be read. It is the voice that has been right about something early on that captures and carries our interest the most. We keep track of what has been said before, and subsequently later pieces do not reiterate the same thing.

Legal reviewers will find two or three segments in a draft that can be removed. Because of this, they build a draft that incorporates claims that can be cut one at a time. Your two revision rounds cover the drafts and the time that the writer spends revising is up to you.

This makes sense at the current price based on batch pricing. However, the generally low hit rate means that about twenty of these are very good and the rest trend toward serviceable filler. Very good steam balls are, and always have been, appreciated, and the second steeping one was one of the best examples, receiving more comments than anything we have posted.
