Unlike an essay, a host script isn’t something to be read. A host script consists of speakable lines with cues that are personalized to one person’s speaking rhythm and incorporates the less interesting aspects. The fire exits, toilet locations, lunch breaks, the wifi password, and more should be accounted for.
A good host script shows the ability to be flexible. Things rarely go exactly to plan. It isn’t uncommon for sessions to overrun, for a panelist to be absent from the room, or for slides to take time to load. If a host isn’t prepared, they use the gaps to give an apology, and the audience remembers that.
