No-AI Print Ads, Written Properly

What digital formats lack is dealt with uniquely by print. Once printed, a finished copy can never be edited or changed. There will be no update to the copy at 9 AM the next day. Because of this, how we think about the copy and the number of checks and balances to reduce the number of errors prior to the printing should change.

This means you have to integrate the response mechanism into the words. Response mechanisms could be phone numbers, short codes, or short web addresses that people can actually type. Without a mechanism you can’t know if the ad was successful.

Why No-AI Print Ads Need a Strong Human Idea

Print advertising communicates one idea to its audience in about two seconds. There is no opportunity to retarget audience members who were partially engaged, and there is no opportunity to make a second impression unless the audience member goes back. Ads must communicate a complete idea with a strong headline and a compelling image, which can be a very tough sentence structure challenge. This type of channel does not have opportunities for unlimited follow-ups as compared to other mediums.

Where AI falls down on print ads

The print drafts appear as if a link will be provided. Each progressively describes a click that will not happen with instructions that the reader ultimately cannot carry out, and omits the phone number. The entire process has to be explained in words on a page.

How We Develop Angles for No-AI Print Ads

The author wants to know what a reader does with a page in front of them, which is obviously very different with a waiting room vs a trade show handout vs a Sunday supplement. Angles are first drafted as headlines and subheadings, because if that pair doesn’t work by itself, the body copy won’t save it.

Testing Different Versions of No-AI Print Ads

You cannot A/B test a printed page, but you can test different print runs and variances between different publications. We include a variation of response codes to identify variants, and keep at least one element constant for each variant. Regional inserts and split runs prove to most cost-effectively utilize this technique.

What print ads cost

One rate, whatever the format: $10 per 100 words. You are paying for the writer’s time and judgement, so the price scales with the words rather than with a package tier.

Typical print adWordsWritingFee (1%)You pay
Single execution60$6$0.06$6.06
Three routes180$18$0.18$18.18
Campaign set450$45$0.45$45.45

Short pieces are billed at the 100-word minimum

A print ad is shorter than our 100-word minimum order, so a single one is charged as 100 words ($10.10). Most clients commission these in batches, which uses the minimum properly — ask for however many options you want and we will quote the set.

The writer receives 100% of the writing price. Our 1% fee is added on top of it, and 0.5% is donated to tree planting. Full pricing breakdown.

No-AI Print Ads Writing FAQs

Every draft goes through an editor, then through several AI detectors and a plagiarism check. Anything that does not come back clean is revised or reassigned. You get the reports with the delivery email.

What the piece is for, who reads it, roughly how long it should be, and anything it must include or avoid. Links to your existing material help. If you are unsure, send what you have and the writer will come back with questions.

Either one, but state your preference before we begin. If you have a predetermined layout, we will need the dimensions and the character or word count for each field in order for us to write to each exactly. If we have the copy first, we will give the designer a rough estimate of the space required for each part.

We proofread what we write twice and flag anything that looks like a factual error. However, please ask someone to sign off on the artwork so that you know someone at your end has reviewed and approved the artwork. Errors occur during typesetting after our file leaves us. Ask your printer to provide you proof.

Completely. Copyright transfers to you on delivery, with no attribution requirement and no licence back to us. Nothing written for you is resold, repurposed or republished.

Definitely sounds like me, reined in a bit

Sent over 8 of my posts as samples, and this sounds like me self edited and refreshed after a good night’s sleep and some cleaning up. That is exactly what I was paying for.

Cold email that got replies

It now solves the issue of week three that some buyers experience when onboarding. We have seen a reply rate increase from under two percent to nine. After, I thought I could better it, but I made it worse by trying to rewrite it twice.

The weakest part was subject lines

Email subject lines, which clear security quickly and interchangeably, are the most expensive opportunistic part of the email. That’s why I’ve asked for a second set. The replacements were an improvement, but I still wrote two of the twelve myself. The bodies, where there was the most potential to improve the email, were worth the money.
